KCS Begins 58th Season

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

The Knoxville Choral Society begins its 58th season with the first rehearsal on August 31 and auditions for new members on September 3.  Preparations begin right away for the November 14  and December 4 performances of Messiah by G. F. Handel.  The November 14 performance is scheduled for the Tennessee Theatre at 8:00 p.m. and will also include J. S. Bach's cantata, Sleepers, Wake. The second concert, presenting Messiah only, is 7:30 p.m. CST, December 4, at Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville.

On December 18-20 the KCS will join forces with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for the 23rd annual Clayton Holiday concerts, featuring an entertaining variety of holiday fare.  In January preparations begin for O Clap Your Hands by Vaughan Williams and Gloria by John Rutter, to be performed for the KCS Honors Concert on February 27 at the Tennessee Theatre. The Honors Concert will also feature the winners of the annual Young Classical Musicians Competition.  KCS will join with KSO on April 15-16 to perform Mozart's Requiem.  The Knoxville Chamber Chorale will perform in the Rossini Street Festival on April 24 and will close out our season with their Spring Concert and Donor Reception on May 2, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at St. John's Cathedral on Broadway.

As the season draws to a close and into the summer months, the KCS board will plan and prepare for their 2010-2011 season. Currently, a concert tour in Italy is being projected for the summer of 2011.  Stay tuned for further developments: they could be exciting.
